U.S. Coast Guard Seizes Cocaine Worth $15M

U.S. Coast Guard and Customs Border Protection intercept a fast-go vessel off the coast of Puerto Rico.

A fast-going ship off the coast of Puerto Rico near Mona Island was successfully caught with Customs Border Protection Unit (CBP) on July 10th with a staggering $15 million in cocaine shipping. Two smugglers were also captured, supported by the USCG JOSEPH TEZANOS Coast Guard Cutter.

In 502 loose packets collected from the 24-foot long vessel, 1,104 pounds of cocaine were discharged on July 12thfrom the U.S. San Juan Coast Guard base. Custody was also exchanged at the base of the two imprisoned smugglers to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Puerto Rico.

This vessel was first suspected of Air and Marine activities Aircrew of CBP narcotics trafficking on Saturday during a routine patrol. For the counter-narcotics operation, CBP alerted other U.S. southern command agencies.

The U.S. Coast Guard was diverted to carry out the quest to ban the boat driving the CBP aircraft.  Having the presence of USCG JOSEPH TEZANOS on the scene resulted to the quick-go ship being hotly pursued. The two men were noted throwing overboard the cocaine packets that were recovered later. In the end, the ship was intercepted in Mona Passage Waters.
