RN Able Seaman delivers 75 tonnes of emergency supplies to own family

Royal Navy offloads vital aid to volcano-hit Caribbean Island.

The Royal Navy has delivered vital emergency supplies to St. Vincent after the Commonwealth island was struck by a devastating volcanic eruption. 14,000 islanders had to be evacuated from the northern half of the island after volcano La Soufrière erupted in April, covering everything in a thick cloud of ash.
Over 500 people from St. Vincent serve in the Royal Navy and many have been deeply affected by the disaster in their homeland. What made the Wave Knight’s aid delivery especially poignant was that Able Seaman Rickal Grant was among her crew.
“I have children that have been displaced by the eruption,” he said. “The people displaced, including my family will benefit from this humanitarian aid given by the people of Barbados. I am happy to be a part of the ships company delivering this aid.”
