Wan Hai confirms order for four new boxships

Taipei-based Wan Hai Lines orders new tonnage from South Korea.

Wan Hai Lines Ltd. has announced that it has ordered four new 13,100-teu containerships from Samsung Heavy Industries in South Korea, as part of its fleet improvement programme.

The contract was signed on 31st May and delivery of the new boxships will start in the second quarter of 2023. Wan Hai currently operates a fleet of 83 owned and 62 chartered.

The new shipbuilding contract is the company’s latest fleet upsizing plan, so as to “ensure that the company’s vessel fleet is able to maintain competitive and support continuous market development.”

The new order comes two weeks after Wan Hai acquired four similar vessels from Capital Maritime & Trading.
