Russia’s Volga shipping has kicked off its renewal programme with an order for 20 new vessels. For starters, the Nizhny Novgorod-based company has placed an order for four RSD71 river-sea bulkers at its own Oka Shipyard.

The first two ships are expected to be delivered in 2022 and the second two in 2023. Construction will start on the Marine Engineering Bureau-designed vessels this year.

Volga’s general director, Yuri Gilts said: “The renewal of the dry cargo fleet will allow our company to maintain and strengthen its position in the transportation of the export cargo base in the most demanded market segments.”
