On the western coast of Mexico, a certain kind of sea turtle that’s been known to lay their eggs in the area have washed up onto shore from apparent drowning.

Hundreds of olive ridley sea turtles have washed up dead on the shores of Morro Ayuta beach in Oaxaca.

Mexican officials believe they might have been entangled in “ghost nets” which are abandoned illegal fishing nets.

A turtle expert was able to determine that all of the dead turtles were female.
