Heavily Damaged Ships after Collision in Marmara Sea

On October 24 two fully loaded vessels, a bulk carrier Benitamou carrying cast iron ore and general cargo ship BC Vanessa carrying wheat were reportedly traveling in the same direction when they collided with each other.

While traveling through the Marmara Sea in Turkey, it was said that due to heavy fog, the vessels were unable to be visible to each other.

The BC Vanessa was to have collided with Benitamou striking in the midship section causing heavy damage resulting in the on boarding of water to the vessel.

The General Directorate of Coastal Safety was notified and rescue teams, tugs and other boats were deployed to the area.
