A US anti-nuclear group called United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) says it believes it has located the missing 106,000-dwt aframax Winsome south of the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas.

The group said it used satellite imagery sourced from the European Space Agency’s Sentinel Hub to locate the ship, but the vessel’s managers, Clara Shipping, have insisted that the ship remains off Sohar.

“AIS transponders appear as if they are in one location, such as Iraq or Oman, when in reality they are engaged in a ship-to-ship [STS] transfer with a NITC tanker to call directly at an Iranian port,” UANI’s chief of staff Claire Jungman told TradeWinds.

The 2000-built Winsome went missing earlier this month after loading at Sohar port in Oman with a cargo bound for China.
