Rescue Continues for U.S. Navy Sailors at Sea

Helicopter Crash Results in Missing U.S. Sailors off San Diego Coast

A helicopter crash on Tuesday, August 31, has resulted in the continued search for five missing sailors aboard a carrier. As of Wednesday, the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Coast Guard are continuing their search for the sailors.

Aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln at roughly 4:30 p.m. off the coast of San Diego, the helicopter was completing a routine flight operation when the tragedy occurred. The MH-60S helicopter reportedly crashed into the sea while operating on the platform.

As a result of the accident, eleven sailors were injured, five injured aboard the USS Abraham and six were lost at sea however, one sailor has since been rescued.

Details of the incident are still few. The Navy released a statement but didn’t mention how the accident occurred however, interests are raised as there were injuries aboard the platform.

Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin acknowledged the accident and stated that the Navy is working diligently towards the continued search and rescue efforts.
