U.S. Navy and Russia in Dispute over Chase Claims in International Waters
Reports of a vessel chase are coming out of Russia which the U.S. military disputes.
Routine operations were being carried out by the U.S. Navy in international waters when the Russian military deployed a destroyer to the scene. The Russian vessel was approximately 60 meters in the area of the U.S. Navy ship, yet Russia is expressing they chased away the vessel which the U.S. Military denies.
The report by the U.S. Military said, “The statement from the Russian Defense Ministry about the interaction between our two Navy ships is false,” continued, “At all times, USS Chafee conducted operations in accordance with international law and custom.”
However, the Russian ministry released their own statement to express that they gave warning to the U.S. Navy vessels and they did not heed.
“Acting within the framework of the international rules of navigation, the Admiral Tributs set a course for ousting the intruder from Russian territorial waters,” stated the Russian military.
