Distress Call on Cargo Ship Carrying 400 Migrants

Publisert

What is being called “one of the largest search and rescue operations carried out in the eastern Mediterranean” was just carried out on October 29 near the island of Crete in Greece.

A Turkish-flagged cargo ship fleeing Turkey carrying an estimated 400 migrants ran into trouble and sent out a distress call to which the Greek Coast Guard took notice.

At this time there has been no additional details released. No updates on where the ship was directed to sail and no mention of the nationalities of all passengers aboard.

This story is still developing.
