Marine Link reports that CMA CGM said its 23,000 TEU mega-ship, the Jacques Saade, has set a world record for the highest number of full containers loaded on board a single vessel. The vessel departed from the port of Singapore on Thursday, carrying 21,422 TEUs on board. It bested its record of 20,723 TEU set in October. The vessel is transiting to Europe, laden with household goods, electronics, machinery, and personal protective equipment for consumers and media professionals.

On the same voyage, the Jacques Saade also fueled with over 6,801 cubic meters of LNG at Singapore for the first time. The 400-meter vessel is the largest containership of its class to conduct ship-to-ship LNG bunkering in a major Asian port. CSSC Shipyards in Shanghai built the CMA CGM Jacques Saade is the first in a series of nine LNG-powered vessels with the capacity to hold 23,000 TEUs. CMA CGM ordered these vessels in 2017. By the end of 2022, the company’s fleet of LNG containerships will grow to 32 vessels.
