Chellaram orders kamsarmax bulker at Chengxi
New bulker, with option for another, part of fleet renewal programme.
Hong Kong-based Chellaram Shipping has placed an order for a 82,000-dwt kamsarmax with the Chedngxi Shipyard in China.
The vessel is scheduled for delivery at the end of 2022 and the deal includes an option for an additional vessel.
TradeWinds said a Chellaram executive did not confirm the order, but said his company is always looking for ways to rejuvenate its fleet.
An official at Chengxi said the ship will be built to comply with Phase 2 of the IMO’s Energy Efficiency Design Index Standards and Tier III NOx rules. The price was not disclosed but industry sources told TradeWinds it was likely to be about $31.5m.
