Russian company orders bulkers to transport its own cargoes.

Aston, the Russian grain exporter and food production company, has ordered two 82,000-dwt newbuildings from Chenxi Shipyard. According to industry insiders, the order was made several weeks ago, but was not publicised.

“This is probably the first time that Aston is ordering kamsarmax bulker newbuildings,” one of the sources told TradeWinds. “It has ordered the new ships to transport its own cargoes.”

Aston is said to be paying around $31.5m each for the bulkers and will take delivery of the pair of new vessels in late 2022 and early 2023. The ships will comply with phase 2 of the IMO’s Energy Efficiency Design Index standards and its Tier III NOx rules.
