Video: Stranded sailor leaves “cursed ship” after four years

Mohammed Aisha joined MV Aman on 5 May 2017
An Syrian mariner has finally left the ship he joined over four years ago. The stranded seafarer, who was suffering from malnourishment and anaemia was forced to to swim ashore for food and water as his abandoned vessel languished at anchor in Egypt.
Mohammed Aisha was forced to stay aboard the 5,100-dwt cargo ship Aman by an Egyptian court order which deemed him the vessel’s legal guardian, but he is now set to board an aeroplane on Thursday night for his home country.
“This has been one of the most frustrating abandonment cases I have worked on, because the situation has been so desperate for Mohammad for so long,” said International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) Arab World and Iran network coordinator Mohamed Arrachedi.
